Быстрота, с которой SMS завоевывает сердца и души людей, поистине поразительна. Многие пользователи мобильных телефонов даже предпочитают отправку сообщений собственно разговору, подтверждая тем самым известный тезис о том, что мысль высказанная - мысль потерянная, а вот отправленная по мобиле - это еще бабушка надвое сказала.

Однако технический прогресс неумолимо идет вперед, и то, что еще вчера казалось верхом совершенства, сегодня оказывается на свалке. Именно такая участь в ближайшее время постигнет и SMS. Конечно, это было детище своего времени, но с приходом мобильных сетей третьего поколения оно безнадежно устарело. На смену SMS идет новая технология MMS (Multimedia Message Service), предложенная корпорацией Ericsson. В сравнении с привычными короткими сообщениями, возможности MMS буквально безграничны.

С распространением новой технологии, каждый владелец мобильного устройства, использующего WAP-протокол в сетях EDGE и GPRS, получит возможность не только передавать сообщения, содержащие текст, графику, фотографии и аудиофрагменты, но даже обмениваться между собой видеоклипами! Таким образом, на смену отрывочным текстовым посланиям придут полноценные мультимедийные виртуальные открытки, которые можно будет с удовольствием изобретать, в том числе и посредством встроенной или внешней камеры.

Ясно, что Ericsson не намерена уходить с рынка мобильных коммуникаций. Свернув собственное производство трубок, компания тем не менее продолжает активную деятельность по разработке новых технологий и решений. И, разумеется, не забывает о довольно агрессивной маркетинговой политике. Так, в готовящемся сейчас к выходу фильме "Tomb Raider", созданном Саймоном Вестом (Simon West) по мотивам немыслимо популярной компьютерной игры, будут применяться некоторые устройства от Ericsson.

Лара Крофт, которую играет Анжелина Жоли (Angelina Jolie), помимо всевозможного оружия будет использовать в своих злоключениях беспроводной наушник с микрофоном Bluetooth Headset HBH-10, связанный с водонепроницаемым и ударостойким мобильником R310s. Будет ли Лара отправлять с него MMS'ки, пока не известно.
